Visual Programming with Max/MSP/Jitter

April 28-30, 2009 - from 10:00 to 17:00

On of our following workshops deals with the visual programming language Max/MSP/Jitter.

This application allows you to built interactive, real-time music and multimedia applications.

A visual programming language is a language which lets users create programs using graphical elements rather then specifying them textually. A VPL allows programming with visual expressions,
spatial arrangements of text and graphic symbols, used either as elements of syntax or secondary notation. Many VPLs are based on the idea of "boxes and arrows," where boxes or other screen objects are treated as entities, connected by arrows, lines or arcs which represent relations.

Max/Msp is a VPL that has been used for over 15 years by programmers, sound-designers, performers, composers, etc and has gained much popularity among artists during recent years. It is a very versatile tool which allows you to manipulate image and sound, create interactive installations or built control mechanisms for performances.

Some projects realized with max/msp :
a sound and light installation by the canadian collective Artificiel
the facade of the KunstHaus in Grazz is controlled by Max/Msp
a motion traking appliance by David Rokeby
a small independent performing robot made by mxhz
a pendulum installation by Boutique vizique
a live cinema performance by Brecht and Boris Debackere
